Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's first efforts to be an established star failed. Two label signed her before she removed her from the market before she'd released any music. Capitol Records released Perry's Ur So Gay EP in 2007 which garnered little attention for its jolly irreverent title track. The song I Kissed a Girl was a more assertive ode sexism backed with electronic-pop with a sharp edge. Certain critics accused the song as promoting gay relationships while others claimed that its explicit depiction of sexuality was intended to appeal to men fantasies. I Kissed a Girl became a worldwide number-one hit thanks to its blend of sensuality and polished song melody. It was also instrumental in driving sales of her 2008 album of the same name, the album One of the Boys. Its bouncy, sharp-tongued and bouncy second song Hot N Cold also proving popular the album much of written by Perry wrote herself eventually registered the sales of over three million copies in the United States.
