Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell works as a journalist for NBC News based out of Washington D.C. Mitchell has a BA degree in English from University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell was hired by KYW Radio and TV as the Philadelphia reporter in the year 1967. She was a reporter for the CBS station WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. After two years, she joined NBC News as a Washington correspondent. From 1981 onwards, she began reporting on the White House. In 1988 she became the head of the congressional reporters. She was appointed the chief White House correspondent by NBC News in 1992. Mitchell has been a panelist as well as anchor of the TV show Meet the Press. She served as a panelist during the presidential debates in 1988 in the debate between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell was married Alan Greenspan the former chairman of Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded numerous honors for journalism excellence, including an award called the Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. Mitchell was also awarded with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award presented by the Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell's very first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. It was a time when the two Ronald Reagan terms in office. Mitchell has reported on a variety of notable news stories throughout time, including the tax reforms, budget reforms as well as an investigation into the Iran Contra scandal. She traveled extensively with Reagan as well as Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
